In Nursery this term, as we will be entering a New Year we will be exploring this with the children and what it means to them and their families.  We will also be looking at different celebrations that are happening around the world, including Chinese New Year, where we will get to sample some food from Chinese origins.

The children will continue their adventures within the classroom and outside in our garden where we will explore the seasons further and what Winter looks like.  This will be explored in many different ways, depending on the interest of the children.  

We strive for all children to have adventures each and every day, and as practitioners we too want to ensure that each day is filled with wonder and excitement based around the interest of the children.  

We will continue to explore our Super 6 books and our Fabulous Four Nursery Rhymes.  Seeing how much enjoyment the children get from exploring books each and every day, and watching their imaginations flourish through sharing books is so rewarding.  Books and Nursery Rhymes play a crucial role in any child’s development. The ability to explore their imaginations and learn how to tell stories and sing songs is so important to their early development in speech and language.

The children will have regular group sessions with their Key Person where they will play games, talk, explore subitising and generally just have a lovely time being together and explore their interests further.

We have started to look at the Wanderlust Study and will be introducing new themes each week for the children to explore further, with the idea that they will use their own imagination to connect with the world around them.

Growth mindset is about having a positive attitude and supports being a successful learner.

Showing a growth mindset helps us face challenges, overcome failure and be resilient.

At WCP we celebrate mistakes in all subjects as we know that that can be the first attempt in learning. We discuss how our learning behaviours contribute to be successful in school and relate this to future ambitions.

Each term we focus on a particular learning behaviour that is linked to growth mindset and certificates are awarded to children who show these learning behaviours in school.

Nursery Information for Parents

We provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment throughout the school and will continue to do so in the Nursery. The staff are committed to providing the highest standard of early years care and development for all of our children.

Our nursery offers places to children from the term after they are 2 years old

• Children who turn 2 between 1st September and 31st December can start nursery in January (Term 3).
• Children who turn 2 between 1st January and 31st March can start nursery in April (Term 5).
• Children who turn 2 between 1st April and 31st August can start nursery in September (Term 1).
• Children can attend from 3 hours to 30 hours per week depending on your requirements.

Sessions

Sessions are from 9.00am – 12.00pm and 12.00pm – 3.00pm. For morning sessions, if you would like your child to stay for lunch until 12.30, this will be charged at £2.80 for a school lunch plus £3.00 for the ½ hour session to 12.30pm. You are able to provide a packed lunch if you prefer. If your child is attending from 12pm, they can either have a school lunch (this must be paid for at £2.80) or bring a packed lunch as eating lunch together is an important part of social development.

Staffing

The staff in our nursery are well qualified and experienced. We have a teacher overseeing the nursery provision. There is a qualified Early Years Professional who has overall responsibility for the nursery pupils. All staff will interact with all pupils in the nursery at various times but each child will be allocated a ‘key worker’ who will be the adult that the child is most familiar with.

Curriculum

Children develop quickly in the early years, and our nursery staff aim to do all they can to help our children have the best possible start in life.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is how the Government and early years professionals describe the time in your child’s life between birth and the age of 5. This is a very important stage as it helps your child get ready for school, as well as preparing them for their future learning and successes. From when your child is born up until the age of 5, their early years’ experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure and support their development, care and learning needs.

Nurseries, pre-schools, school reception classes and childminders registered to deliver the EYFS must follow a legal document called the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

The EYFS Framework exists to support all professionals working in early years to help your child and was developed with a number of early years experts and parents.

The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development. Children should mostly develop the three prime areas first. These are:

• Communication and language
• Physical development
• Personal, social and emotional development

These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning. As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in four specific areas. These are:

• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the world
• Expressive arts and design

These seven areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. This is a little bit like a curriculum in primary and secondary schools, but it is suitable for very young children and is designed to be really flexible so that staff can follow your child’s unique needs and interests. Through the EYFS, children learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking, which takes place both indoors and outside.

Funding and Fees

Children who turn 3 between 1st September and 31st December will receive their funded hours in the following January (Term 3).

Children who turn 3 between 1st January and 31st March will receive their funded hours in the following April (Term 5).

Children who turn 3 between 1st April and 31st August will receive their funded hours in the following September (Term 1).

If your child is 3 years old and you meet the eligibility criteria, see below, you are entitled to claim for 30 hours of funded education per week from the term after your child turns 3.

If you do not meet this eligibility criteria you are still entitled to 15 hours funded per week.

If your child is 2 years old you may be able to apply for a funded place, 15 hours a week, if you meet the relevant criteria, see below.

Fee paying places are also available from the term after your child turns 2, before their funding entitlement starts, from 9am – 3pm, term time only.

If you pay privately for your child's nursery place, the cost per session until July 2021, morning or afternoon, for all ages, is £21.00. This includes a contribution towards the daily, healthy snacks that are provided.

Funding Eligibility for 2 year olds

Some 2 year olds are entitled to 15 funded hours of childcare per week. They can start the term following their 2nd birthday if the following eligibility criteria is met.

Your 2-year-old can get free early education and childcare if you get one of the following:

• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Universal Credit
• Tax credits and annual income of under £16,190 before tax
• Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
• Support through part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act
• The Working Tax Credit 4-week run on (the payment you get when you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)

A child can also get free early education and childcare if they’re looked after, have a SEN statement, EHC plan or receive Disability Living Allowance.

Funding Eligibility for 3 and 4 year olds

All 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 funded hours of childcare per week regardless of eligibility. Some 3 and 4 year olds are also entitled to an additional 15 hours per week (30 funded hours), (9am – 3pm) if the following eligibility criteria is met:

Both parents must be working, (or the sole parent is working in a lone parent family), and each parent earns, on average, a weekly minimum equivalent to 16 hours at national minimum wage) and a maximum annual income of less than £100,000 per year.

Therefore, currently for a parent aged 21-24, you'd need to earn a weekly average of at least £131.20. For a parent aged 25+, you'd need to earn a weekly average of at least £139.52.

This is a scheme to help working parents, so families where one parent doesn't work, or both parents don't work, will usually not be eligible for these additional 15 hours.

However, if one parent isn't working because they're an official carer (e.g. receiving benefits relating to being a carer) or they are receiving disability benefits, and the other parent is working, then you may be able to claim.

There is also additional entitlement if the parent normally works but is temporarily away from the workplace, for example on statutory sick pay.

If you are self-employed or on a zero hours contract. You will be eligible if you (or both of you in a couple) earn at least the equivalent of 16 hours at the National Minimum Wage – see above.

Wrap Around Care for 3 year olds

We can provide wrap around care beyond the morning and afternoon sessions, and offer cover from 8am to 4pm (for 3 year olds) and 5pm (for 4 year olds)

These are booked separately from the Nursery session and each request is charged for at £6 per hour.
