At WCP we want our children to be the best they can be: to have the confidence and the resilience to reach the highest standards in everything they do.

Our curriculum is designed to allow every child to develop the skills and personal qualities necessary to make them positive contributors to society and for them to become mentally and emotionally happy individuals.

Underpinning our ‘curriculum design’ are our key drivers. These shape our curriculum, are linked with the overarching aims and values of our school and reflect our local context.

Our Values

Our values have been chosen by the children, staff, parents and governors after discussing what is the most important values to have in our school.







In more detail, our curriculum:

  • has been designed to take account of the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the Primary National Curriculum.

  • offers a full range of core and foundation subjects that have been carefully mapped out across school in clear progression frameworks, so that knowledge, understanding, skills and concepts build over time.

  • recognises that progress means knowing more and remembering more and building on prior learning.

  • allows children to see clear links between different aspects of their learning and make connections.

  • incorporates other experiences and opportunities which best meet the needs of the children in our school.

  • also ensures we provide all children with opportunities for experiential learning, for example through residential visits, extra-curricular sports, arts, taking part in music and drama festivals, specialist music lessons in school, French lessons and cooking.

As a result of this, we hope that all children leave Witney CP having mastered a wide range of concepts and skills and gained the knowledge that gives them a love of learning, prepares them for their next steps and develops an understanding of the world in which they live. .
